On 14 July MINURSO Celebrated the national day of France by raising the national flag at the Mission headquarters in Laayoune next to the UN flag.
France has been a member of the United Nations since its founding in 1945 and holds a permanent seat at the Security Council. The country is the 28th largest troop contributor to the peacekeeping operations.
« Bastille Day » is the common name given in English-speaking countries to France's national day celebrated in commemoration of the storming on 14 July 1789 of the Bastille, a fortress prison in Paris where political prisoners were detained. The commemoration has come to signify France’s fundamental commitment to defending Human Rights.
