Closure of UNIPSIL

The United Nations Integrated Peacebuilding Office in Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL) was established on 4 August 2009 to support peace and democratic governance. Its mandate ended on 31 March 2014, and its responsibilities were transferred to the UN Country Team in Sierra Leone.

UNIPSIL Human Rights Section in Collaboration with Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone

2 March 2010, Freetown - As part of the activities that led to the celebration of International Women's Day on March 8 2010, UNIPSIL Human Rights Section in collaboration with the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone organized a two-day training workshop (1st – 2nd March 2010) on sexual and gender based violence in Freetown.

The training sought to strengthen the capacity of local NGOs, CBOs operating in the Western Area and to also provide them with the relevant advocacy tools needed to publicize the three Gender Justice Acts; i.e. Domestic Violence Act, Registration of Customary Marriage and Divorced Act and Devolution of Estate Act. The training attracted thirty participants representing various NGOs, CBOs and civil society activists working at grassroots' level.
