UNDOF Pays Tribute to Fallen Peacekeepers on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers

The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) held a solemn ceremony at Camp Faouar on 29 May 2025 to mark the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. Major General Anita Asmah, Head of Mission and Force Commander, paid tribute to those who had made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of peace under the UNDOF mandate. A central moment of the ceremony was the wreath-laying ceremony, during which Major General Asmah paid respects to the fallen peacekeepers. All present observed a minute’s silence, honoring the memory and enduring legacy of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In her address to the assembled military and civilian personnel of UNDOF, Major General Asmah delivered a reflection on the sacrifices inherent in peacekeeping. She highlighted the courage and dedication of UN peacekeepers who serve in challenging environments and acknowledged the strength and resilience of their families, who support them from afar. Emphasizing that peace is a precious achievement, maintained through unwavering dedication and sacrifice, she reaffirmed UNDOF’s commitment to its mission in the Golan Heights. Major General Asmah concluded by affirming that UNDOF remains committed to fulfilling its mandated tasks in the Golan Heights.
