August 23, 2013 – It was double cheers for INDCON troops in Golan Heights as they celebrated India's 67th Independence Day on Thursday, 15 August 2013; and the Medal Parade for their troops on Friday, 16 August 2013.
In addressing the troops on medal parade, the Force Commander offered them his heartiest congratulations on behalf of the Secretary General of the United Nations. "To the soldiers of the Indian Contingent, who have received the UNDOF medal today, on behalf of the Secretary General of the United Nations I offer my heartiest congratulations," he said.
"The UNDOF medal represents the high level of dedication to the mission that you demonstrate every day. It is a tangible symbol of the hard work and sacrifices you have made and demonstrates that you have served in one of the most successful United Nations missions with honour and in the most turbulent times. You have represented the United Nations and your country with the highest standards of performance, and have reasons to be proud of your accomplishments, he said.
The occasion was followed by a feast of delicious Indian cuisine and brightened up with the colorful entertainment from the INDCON troops.
