UNDOF Press Statement

The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) remains committed to its mandate and to fostering peace and stability in the region and expresses its concern over the current security environment in the Golan.

UNDOF personnel, supported by United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) military observers in Observer Group Golan, remain at their positions in the area of separation. They continue to carry out their mandated activities, which include monitoring and observing the area of separation and the ceasefire line, as well as patrolling and reporting on developments.

Since 07 December, UNDOF has observed a significant increase in Israel Defense Forces (IDF) movements within the area of separation and along the ceasefire line, where they have been constructing counter-mobility obstacles since July 2024. UNDOF confirms that as of 13 December, the IDF remain in the area of separation in multiple locations.

UNDOF has informed its Israeli counterparts that these actions constitute a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. UNDOF urges all parties to respect their obligations under the Agreement, cease all military activities in the area of separation, and uphold the terms of the 1974 agreement to preserve stability in the Golan.

This follows an incident on 07 December when armed individuals looted weapons and ammunition at United Nations position 10A near Hadar and UNDOF personnel engaged with leaders of the local community and recovered a number of the looted items, including most of the weapons and ammunition that had been taken earlier in the day.
