UNDOF welcomes Irish contigent
October 07, 2013 - The 43rd Infantry Group of the Irish Defence Forces deployed to UNDOF on Saturday, 28th September 2013.
The main body of Irish troops arrived in Camp Fouar at approximately 2000 hours on Saturday following their journey from Dublin. An advance element from the Irish Contingent, composed of Command, Operations and Logistical personnel, arrived a week earlier to begin preparation for the arrival of the main body of troops.
The Irish contingent will take up their role as the UNDOF Force Headquarters Reserve Company. They have received briefings from UNDOF Force Headquarters on the Operational situation in the Area of Separation and have been receiving tours of the AOS from members of the Fijian and Philippine contingents. These tours will familiarise the Irish contingent with the routes and UN Positions within the AOS, a key element in the fulfilment of their role.
