On 19 May 2021, UNDOF's Head of Mission & Force Commander Lieutenant General Ishwar Hamal had a farewell meeting with Commanding Brigadier General Engineer Mazen Ibrahim Younes, Senior Syrian Arab Delegate (SSAD), who completed his duty as head of the SSAD office on 19 May 2021.

The Force Commander expressed his deepest gratitude to SSAD for his significant contribution and strong support to UNDOF. Lt Gen Hamal stated that he was highly appreciative of the SSAD’s positive response, simplicity and straightforwardness in the implementation of UNDOF’s Mandate throughout his tenure. SSAD had demonstrated a consistent respect towards UNDOF, its Mission and its members. With utmost enthusiasm and exceptional professionalism, he has enhanced the Mission’s relationship with the host nation. He served with highly valued input and tremendously supported UNDOF to communicate and engage with the Syrian authorities at any time, whenever required.

Commanding Brigadier General Engineer Younes expressed that he was honored to work with UNDOF in difficult and different times, which is presently aimed at the return of UNDOF to what it was before 2011. He also stated that he will cherish the memories he has accumulated as head of SSAD and most importantly working with UNDOF.

At the end of farewell meeting, Lt Gen Hamal presented a letter of appreciation to SSAD for his utmost dedication, exemplary professionalism and selfless performance to help UNDOF achieve its mandate.

Finally, UNDOF and its family extend their best wishes to SSAD, Commanding Brigadier General Engineer Mazen Ibrahim Younes for every success in the future.
