Nepali Medal Parade Ceremony, August 2020

On 28th August 2020, the Nepalese Contingent (NEPCON-VIII), Nepalese Mechanized Company (NMC-III), Nepalese Engineer Platoon (NEP ENGR-IV) and the Level 1+ Hospital (NEP MED-I) were awarded the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal at UNDOF HQ, Camp Faouar.

The Head of Mission and Force Commander (HoM/FC) Major General Ishwar Hamal awarded the medals alongside the Chief of Mission Support (CMS) Mr. Bernard Lee and the Chief of Staff (COS) Col Martin Alvarez. Contingent Commanders from the Irish Contingent Force Reserve Company (FRC), Indian Contingent (LOGCOY), Uruguayan Mechanized Infantry Company (UMIC), UNDOF Staff Officers and Mission civilian staff were also present at the function – all observing the best practices now familiar to UNDOF in the mitigation of Covid-19 risks.

The NEPCON -VIII Commander Lt Col Madan Neupane read a message from the Nepali Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Purna Chandra THAPA. The welcome speech was delivered by the Nepali Senior National Officer (SNO) Lt Col Bhim Shankar Ban.

The HoM/FC addressed the parade and congratulated all members of the Nepali Contingents on their achievement. In his speech, he paid particular attention to the hard work, dedication, professionalism and continuous effort by all the Nepali troops to maintain peace in the GOLAN during difficult, especially throughout the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
