Brigadier General Madhab Thapa
Brigadier General Madhab Thapa, Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). Born on 11 October 1976 in Lalitpur, Nepal, he joined the Nepali Army in 1997 and was commissioned in 1999. Before this assignment, he was serving as the Commandant of the Nepali Army War College, where he oversaw the education and professional development of mid-level and senior officers of the Nepali Army.
Throughout his military career, Brigadier General Thapa has held a wide range of command and staff appointments at tactical, operational and strategic levels. His command experience includes an independent infantry company, an infantry battalion, and an infantry brigade. His key staff appointments include Director, Directorate of Army Organization at Army Headquarters; Chief of Staff of a Division Headquarters; Deputy Military Assistant to the Chief of the Army Staff; Assistant Coordinator at the National Security Council Secretariat; and Aide-de-Camp to His Majesty the King of Nepal.
He brings extensive United Nations peacekeeping experience from four missions. He served as Movement Control Officer and Cell Chief in ONUB (Burundi), Chief Operations Officer in MINUSTAH (Haiti), Military Assistant to the Force Commander in UNDOF (Syria), and Deputy Chief of Staff (Support) at UNMISS Force Headquarters (South Sudan).
Brigadier General Thapa holds Master’s Degrees in Military Science and Strategic Studies, Defence Studies, Strategic Studies, and Humanities and Social Sciences. He is a graduate of the Army Command and Staff College (Nepal), the Joint Services Command and Staff College (United Kingdom), and the International College of Defence Studies, National Defence University (China).
