On the 9th October 2020, FIJIBATT soldiers serving with the United Nations Disengagement and Observer Force (UNDOF) in Syria were decorated with their UNDOF service medal by the Force Commander of UNDOF, Maj Gen Ishwar Hamal. 102 soldiers of the FIJIBATT who were deployed to Camp Ziouani last October, were presented with the medals. Fiji became an independent sovereign state on 10th October 1970 when its colonial status was abrogated. This was a special day for FIJIBATT because they celebrated 50th anniversary as an independent nation. FIJIBATT has been deployed on UNDOF since July 2013 and its 7th rotation has been successfully accomplished.
