On the 7th June 2017, a memorial service was held in Camp Ziounai to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Commandant Thomas ‘Tommy’ Wickham Defence Force Ireland, who died in the line of duty in 1967. At the time of his death, Comdt Wickham was deployed as an unarmed United Nations Military Observer (UNMO) for the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO) on the Golan Heights.
